La Brea is the brainchild and recording project of songwriter, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, John Singletary. Teamed with drummer and producer, Matt Buckley (Cetus, Drop Anchor, Trace Fury) a three song EP. was recorded under the name "Hallucinating Arkansas" in 2004 with Buckley on drums and production.

After changing the project name to La Brea, he teamed up with Buckley again to record a self titled LP on which all music was composed by on guitar and keyboard by Singletary and arranged to include a wide range of instruments such as violin, cello, piano, drums, electronics, etc. played by members of several prominent Philly bands (Infinien, Leavenworth, Cetus, West Philadelphia Orchestra and others). As the project evolved the process became a more direct collaboration between Singletary and Buckley and they released a seven song LP in April of 2007.

Singletary changed courses artistically after this release to pursue a career as a fine art photographer and has exhibited work at the LG Tripp Gallery, Gallery 1401, The Red Filter Gallery and other venues. His work is represented in the collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Free Library of Philadelphia and others. At this time La Brea remains on indefinite hiatus.
